Strategies to be a better student in a reading and listening exercises

Pre reading strategies
The first strategy that I choose is to Brainstorming, which consist to examine the title of the selection you are about to read, then you list all the information that comes to mind about this title, using these pieces of information to recall and understand the material also as a relevant knowledge to reframe or reorder what you know, or to note what you disagree with, for further research.

The second strategy is about to preview the vocabulary , which means to find or look for the unfamiliar words, because need to be taught to you before reading so that new words, background information, and comprehension can improve together. Then try to list all words in the assignment that may be important for you to understand. Arrange words to show the relationships to the learning task. Add words you probably understand to connect relationships between what is known and the unknown.

While reading strategy

Firstly you can guess some word meanings by using context clues, word formation clues or cognates scanning and skimming for specific pieces of information, which will be helping you to predicting text content, then you have to identify the topic sentences that contain the main idea of the paragraph using visual and sensory images such as graphic organizers to identify the main idea or themes of a text.

Secondly is significant to recognizing lexical clues as a strategy because will be facilitate you to distinguish between fact and opinion in a text, then identify connecting ideas via connectors, also is useful to s rereading, to repair comprehension when it breaks down so you will be pay, attention to the grammatical function of unknown words or any context in the text.

After reading strategy

The first strategy to follow is using graphic organizers, which is help the learner to organize information and make connections. At a more challenging level, they can be used to create frameworks for relationships between concepts in a short , or long text.
Other significant strategy will be Peer practice, when you review, drill, and rehearse in pairs or in small groups of three or four, in order to consolidate their understanding or enhance skill development, according what you read or listen.

English Language

The English language too has come to play a leading role in international communication. Thus, many people whose native language is not English have studied English and become more conversant with English than with their own languages( differrent countries). This is especially true with the leaders of the people to whom English is a foreign language. As a result, the English language is used by them not only in the administration of their countries but also in all their institutions of higher learning.
In many other countries, where English is not the most spoken language, it is an official language; these countries include Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Ghana, Gambia, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, the Solomon Islands, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It is also one of the 11 official languages that are given equal status in South Africa (South African English).

English is also the official language in current dependent territories of Australia (Norfolk Island, Christmas Island and Cocos Island) and of the United States (Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa and Puerto Rico),[29] and in the former British colony of Hong Kong.

Countries and things that have been influence and contribute International English

The human race is divided by a multiplicity of languages, many of which have come to play an important part in the affairs of the world. So the English language too has come to play a leading role in international communication. Thus, many people whose native language is not English have studied English and become more conversant with English than with their own languages. This is especially true with the leaders of the people to whom English is a foreign language. As a result, the English language is used by them not only in the administration of their countries but also in all their institutions of higher learning.

From the beginning the languagethat have been influenced english involve half Greek and half Latin or french words, depending oneach point of view ,as a social , cultural , economic aspect or just depending on the relathionship between countries and their contribution that enriches the language with new idioms or special words that means something in other languages but doesnt have meaning or translation in english . Even thougth The Largest number of Teutonic words are Anglo-Saxon in origin followed by Scandinavian then by Dutch and German. Low German has contributed more loanwords to English than High German.
Examples:\
1. Regarding the title of the poem "gently" is certainly Romance in origin and I don't know about "night", which does exist in German but quite close to it's Latin origin, as well. Perhaps it's Indo-European since I don't have time to check.
2.A Celtic element also exists in English which is often overlooked. " Cloak and gown" are early loans from Gaulish clocca and gunna. "Bother" is an early loan from Old Irish. "Brat" and "Fiddle" aslo appear to have an Irish origin, compare Middle Irish brata "a child's blanket" and fid "wood". Welsh has given us "penguin and daffodil"; Cornish "pesky, pixie and wrass (a type of fish)". "Uncanny and raid" are Scottish Gaelic. "Whiskey and galore" could be either Scotch or Irish. Linguist Mario Pei once said that the Celtic languages have given English many of its most colorful words.

Disadvantages of a Globilized World

Argumentative essay

Nowadays Globalization offers huge potential profits to companies and nations but has been complicated by widely differing expectations, standards of living, cultures and values, and legal systems as well as unexpected global cause-and-effect relationship. Specially when underdeveloped countries are not able to compete against richest countries in a globalized world, because those countries lose their competitive advantage in social, economic, and political aspects as a labor exploitation and being unable to find the opportunity to hang in an open market.

Firstly, we have to recognize that a globalized world give you an idea about Increase probability of economic disruptions in one nation effecting all nations in particular with economical, social and political differences between them. Even thought the increased flow of skilled and non-skilled jobs from developed to developing nations as corporations seek out the cheapest labor, which means that undeveloped countries will have the chance to find more opportunities to work, and decrease their unemployment rate but doesn’t mean that the manufacturing industry in those countries will be expanding and getting stronger in the open market.

An example of that is when Latin American people go to other countries in order to have a better opportunities life, work and progress than they think they will have in their own countries, they usual cant find or have the better choices because they are from an underdeveloped country and they get discriminated for that, in other cases they work as everybody else and they don’t get well paid or just they don’t receive the money what they deserve. In a general way a multinational or big companies see the opportunities to reduce cost in an underdevelopment countries, which in short term brings benefits, but in long term will be affecting the improvement of the national companies in the internal and external market.

To sum up the globalization brings to some countries really good earnings, the most important thing is to use properly all the resources and advantages that each country has as knowledge, cheapest labor, technology, capital, etc, in order to improve national industries. Despite that underdeveloped countries have to understand that they have to care more that anyone else their business ,because the external investment to the country is not bad, the effects is to not permit the abuse of those companies ,as a consequence will be decreasing their advantages that could gives them problems as to closed national industries or to forget improve their competences against them, so its relevant to use those advantage to growth as a country but not being depending of them .
